JEWISH RELIGIOUS SERVICES (AMENDMENT No. 6) LAW, 5745-1985*
Addition of section 5. 1. In section 5 of the Jewish Religious Services Law [(Consolidated Version)],
5731-1971(1) (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Law"), the words "the
Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of the
Interior" shall be replaced by the words "the Prime Minister, who shall be the chairman, the Minister of Religious Affairs and the Minister of the Interior".
Replacement of sections 8 to 10. 2. Sections 8 to 10 of the principal Law shall be replaced by the following sections:
"Determination of budget. 8. Every council shall, with consent as provided in section 9, determine the budget of the religious services at such time, in such from and in accordance with such rules as the Minister of Religious Affairs may prescribe.
Consent to determination of budget. 9.
  • (a) The determination of the budget under section 8 shall require the consent -
    • (1) if the locality whose inhabitants the council provides with religious services is within the area of a local authority - of the local authority;
    • (2) in every other case - of the Minister of Religious Affairs.
  • (b) In the absence of agreement under subsection (a) (l) between the council and the local authority, the Minister of Religious Affairs and the Minister of the Interior shall decide the matter; in the absence of agreement between the Ministers, the Government shall decide the matter and, in accordance with its decision, the Government shall determine the budget with or without variations.
Validity of budget. 10. The council shall incur no expenditure whatsoever unless it is included in a budget determined as provided in sections 8 and 9.".
Amendment of section 11. 3. In section 11 of the principal Law, subsection (a) shall be replaced by the following subsection:
"(a) Expenditure under the budget of a council shall be borne -
  • (1) by the Government to the extent of 40 per cent;
  • (2) by the local authority to the extent of 60 per cent.".
